HISTOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION ON THE FIBROUS COMPONENTS OF PERIODONTIUM IN VITAMIN D©ü-ADMINISTERED RABBIT

Abstract
The purpose of this investigation is to discribe the effect of given excess vitamin D©ü on the fibrous components of periodontal membrane.
The experimental administration group were consisted of twenty male rabbits, approximately 5 months olds.
The animals were given vitamin D©ü sap. the dosage 500, 000. IU. by intraperitoneally injection a week, during experimental periods ranging from one to ten weeks.
On the day following the injection the animal were sacrifieced.
The speciments was removed from mandible first molar teeth with jaw.
All tissue were fixed immediately in 10 per cent formalin, and decalcified in 5 percent formic acid solurion, and after dehydrated in routine manner, embedded in celloidine.
Sections which included those of molar teeth were stained with Van Gieson stain Bielshowsky-Gomori¢¥s method, Resorcin fuchsin stain, Mallory¢¥s azan stain and hematoxylin eosin stain method.
The results obtained were summarized as follows;
In vitamin D©ü treated animals, the arrangement of periodontal collagen and Sharpey¢¥s fibers close to the vicinity of cementum of root and irregulary run to surface of alveolar bone.
Calcified irregular bodies were seen in some areas of percodontum.
Elastic fibers are arranged parallel or oblique in root, but not connected to each other.
In the reticular fibers number was tendency to decrease gradually.
